Salar de Uyuni Travel Inspiration

The world's largest salt flat, Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia, is one of the most breathtaking beauties of the world. Formed from evaporated prehistoric lakes, stretching 10,582 kilometres squared, it is home to one of the largest lithium mines in Bolivia.

At certain times of the year, the landscape floods transforming the landscape into a stunning mirror reflection of the sky. Across the region, jaw-dropping desert landscapes, salt lakes rich in minerals, dormant and active volcanoes, star-studded night skies, geysers and hot springs, not to mention the unique and wonderful wildlife make for an unforgettable experience.

I spent three days and two nights exploring the region, marvelling at the ethereal landscapes, discovering hidden gems and corners.  For me, the beauty of the southwest of Bolivia is best explained through the marble and sapphire tones, deep reds and emeralds that shine through.

Early mornings and late evenings huddled up in salt hotels and sleeping bags, the long days left me crossing the border into the Atacama desert with 800+ photos and a perspective of a part of the world that I never could have imagined existed. Sure it wasn't the most comfortable but it was one of the most unforgettable. This post is a simple one. Instead of attempting to portray my experiences through words, I will tell the story in photos.
